My name is Jack McMahon, and I have been working with Data for my entire career.
Having held both Data Analyst and Data Engineering roles, I have seen the many, varied, and (sometimes) unusual ways people gain insights from data.
This Fall, I will take a big step forward by starting a Masters in Statistics at UC. I am incredibly excited!
Over the course of the summer, I plan to revisit past statistical coursework to ensure I’m prepared. This mini blog will serve as an interactive scrapbook of my thoughts on what I study.
Learning by Doing
“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough”
Each week, I plan to post an interesting application of a statistical concept I am currently studying, complete with a practical example of how to use this concept in daily life.
I’ll make liberal use of visualizations (my favorite part of being an analyst!), as well as R (my favorite analysis tool). My goal is to distill an abstract statistical concept down to an idea that STICKS.
While not everyone may love statistics, my hope is that I can share some interesting new ways to approach problems.
Cheers!
